Day One at Cardigan

Sept. 22, 2021

On the first day of Cardigan, everybody came to school and got on the bus. We drove there, and got our very first view of the AMC lodge and the solar panels next to it. On the field in front of the solar panels, everybody got in a big circle, doing some stuff and then playing a big group game that I forget the name of (It may have been mountain baseball) as well as duck duck goose. Next, I met my group leader, Max. We played a few small group games together with my group mates as well as sketched the AMC lodge. We then started hiking, stopping to eat a snack and sketch a stream going parallel to the trail. Stopping for a third time, our group had lunch, and on the same break sketched plants, adding fairies to the scene. We eventually made it to the cellar hole, a rock wall basement to a demolished farmhouse. After sketching that, my group set off again, going in a different direction then most, maybe all of the other groups. We had been hiking for about five minutes before stopping again. This stop was not to take a break, but to play a partner sketching game where you try to sketch a plant without seeing it and only your partner telling you about it. Walking on the trail not soon after, Max found and showed us an indian cucumber plant. We sketched that and continued on. Finally, our group arrived at the spot where we were to turn around. There was a drylands area right next to the trail there and we decided to sketch that. I also sketched stickintator and a final resting place for it sticking out of a stump. (Stickinator is the name our group dubbed a cool looking walking stick that we found) After that, us and Max played camouflage and the sardines. When that was over, we started on the trek back. On the way, we played a cool tree game that Max made himself. Finally, after a long and happy day, half the 7th grade got on the school bus and went home.

The Theme of Movement

For day one at Cardigan, the geography! theme I chose was movement. I decided on this because movement is about moving places. On the first day there, we moved to Cadigan for our number one time ever. Also, we saw a cellar from a farmhouse. The people who originally lived there moved away. There were trees like apples and scotch pines as well that were not origionally there but moved to the mountain. This is why I chose the theme of movement for day one at Cardigan.
